You are probably aware of the fact that your chair and desk are elementary ergonomic tools in your working situation. But, are you also aware that lighting, and especially task lighting, is as important for your work satisfaction, concentration and efficiency? You spend many hours a day at your workstation, and it is essential that there is an environment for absorption, creativity and functionality. The choice of lighting solution at the workplace is therefore of greater consequence than most people realise.
A task light is the best way to obtain individually adjusted illumination of the workplace.
To get the best effect out of your ergonomical task light you have to position it correctly. There is a difference in the positioning of an
ergonomical task light and the classic Luxo task light.
An ergonomical task light distributes the light asymmetrically over the workarea and provides maximum light approximately 35 - 40 cm from the shade.
Complete the following exercise:
Place the task light beside you, on your left side if you are right handed and on your right side if you are left handed, to ensurethat your hand is not in the way of the light.
The task light shade should be under eye height, approximately 40 cm above the desk, and parallel to the desk surface.
Do not adjust the shade upwards. You will only increase the risk of glare.
